As has been well-reported, Lawrence General Hospital (LGH) has agreed to purchase the former Steward Health Care Holy Family hospitals in Methuen and Haverhill for $28 million. The closing on that deal is expected to occur on Monday, September 30.

This week, the State Senator representing parts of the Merrimack Valley, Pavel Payano (D-Lawrence) wrote an op-ed piece in the Valley Patriot praising LGH for offering “a lifeline for our community and a critical step toward realizing our vision of a robust and accessible regional healthcare system in the Merrimack Valley.”

Pavano noted that “Lawrence General has a long history of providing culturally competent care that meets the diverse needs of our community. By bringing Holy Family Hospitals into their network, Lawrence General ensures that these vital institutions will continue to serve our residents with the same dedication and excellence they are known for.”

He continued, “Thank you to Lawrence General and their CEO Dr. Abha Agrawal for their leadership and commitment to accessible healthcare in my district.”
