MEMBER MOMENTS: Baystate Medical Center’s 102-Year-Old Volunteer
Ask any hospital administrator and they’ll tell you that their corps of volunteers helps make the facility hum. A friendly face at the front desk, a volunteer navigator ensuring a visitor finds his or her place in the hospital, gift shop operators, and administrative help, among many other posts help complex hospital systems operate efficiently.
This week, Baystate Medical Center celebrated the birthday — the 102nd birthday! — of its longest-serving and oldest volunteer, Herbert Norman of Springfield.
“I’m a people person and I love to come in every Tuesday and Thursday,” he told a WWLP-TV reporter in this story.
