MHA Statement on Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
“The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) offers a pivotal opportunity to boost our nursing workforce at a time when our healthcare system needs every available tool to address staffing shortages. We are proud to be a part of a broad coalition in support of the NLC’s passage, which also includes leading nursing organizations, patient advocates, and every hospital in the state.
“The pandemic has proven that streamlining the licensing process gets nurses to the bedside more efficiently. The NLC would make these benefits a permanent part of our healthcare future by granting providers access to a talented pool of nurses from more than 30 states, empowering nurses to quickly cross state lines to assist in times of emergency, and allowing nurses to provide virtual care to patients beyond our borders.
“We thank the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission and the Baker Administration for their endorsement of this important legislation, which will be a critical component in meeting our nursing workforce challenges.”
